Banjska stena is an exhilarating viewpoint which gives the spectator a vantage view of the Perucac Lake and the Drina River Canyon.
Tepih livada (Carpet Meadow) is part of an ancient woodland called Crveni potok (Red Creek) nature reserve. The Carpet Meadow is unique because its soil composition makes it soft to the step and feels like a carpet under your feet.
Mokra Gora (Wet Mountain) is a village nestled on the steep relief between Mt. Tara and Mt. Zlatibor. The village is a popular tourist attraction, mainly due to historical reconstruction. The famous replica ethno village Drvengrad (Wooden Town) was created by Emir Kusturica, a world-renowned Serbian film director. Mokra Gora also boasts a reconstructed, exceptionally narrow railway called Sarganska osmica (Sargan Eight Railway) which is now something like a living museum. The railway describes the number eight as it winds for 15km from Mokra Gora to Sargan and back, cutting through steep and rocky landscape via 22 tunnels and over a dozen of bridges. You can take a pleasure ride on an unforgettable steam train and enjoy the breathtaking views.
The mountain Zlatibor (Golden Pine) is less than an hour’s drive away from Mount Tara. Zlatibor is one of the most popular mountain centres in Serbia, universally loved for sport, rural and medical tourism. Not only does Mount Zlatibor make you spoilt for choice with regards to outdoor activities, but it also host numerous vibrant festivals and events throughout the year.
Stopica pecina Cave on Mt. Zlatibor is a cave of great experiential and geological interest. With an entrance taller than 35m, a brook flowing through, a roaring 9m-tall waterfall and numerous water-filled tubs and ceiling openings, this cave makes an indelible impression on the visitors.
Jokino vrelo (Joka’s Spring) is a tourist site ideal for those who like to unwind and lie-back in nature. The tourist complex, including a restaurant and mountain cabins, envelop a natural pool filled by a small mountain river. What’s special about this place is that the visitors can enjoy recreational carp fishing.
Sirogojno is a centuries-old village on Mt. Zlatibor, which showcases a stunning open-air ethno museum “Old Village”. Featuring a huge number of authentic everyday objects and buildings collected on Mt. Zlatibor, this museum portrays life at the turn of the 20th century in this Serbian mountain. It is also interesting that you can buy traditional clothing and household items made of wool, which are still handcrafted the way they always have been in this region.
Visegrad is a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, resting at the confluence of the Drina and the Rzav Rivers. It is around an hour and a half away from Tara by car. The town is renowned for its beautiful 11-arched bridge built by an Ottoman pasha in the 16th century. This awe-inspiring bridge that leaps across the mesmerizing emerald-colored river the Drina is the theme and central motif in the Nobel prize-winning 1961 book The Bridge on the Drina by Ivo Andric.
